Cleaning out the closet

Actually it’s a storage closet, right off my patio. I keep my Christmas decorations in there. Yes I am one of those people who puts up their decorations right after  Thanksgiving,    I thought I would be able to get them out myself and make sure every thing was in working condition.

Well I packed them up last year before my back injury and now find the boxes to heavy to lift.Damn,I hate that. Guess I’ll have to wait for my husband to get them out for me.

It is Wednesday so Wednesday words….

I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.

The Road Less Traveled

Spent a lovely afternoon with my husband. We curled up on the sofa and watched a dvd we had taken out of the Library. It was Robbie Coltrane’s Incredible Britain He traveled from London to his hometown of Glasgow, however, this time he took the road less traveled, the side roads..  First, he had a 50 yr old red Jaguar that would tempt me to learn how to drive a stick shift, if it  meant I could drive something like that. 🙂

it was three episodes full of wonderful tiny towns and villages. It introduced us to cheese rolling, farmer wrestling and pigeon races. We watched, along with a long married couple, as the building where they both worked and where they met, was favorite part was he spent the night in a “haunted” castle.  Chillingham was the name. They had two paranormal investigators there who had picked up some evps during the night but where unable to convince Robbie of the presence of ghosts. He learned how to wash Scottish cows and ready them for show.

It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon and to remind you that not everyone runs on high-speed and sometimes it’s nice to slow down and take the road less traveled.

Enough already with the Black Friday

Now I like a bargain as much as the next girl. One of my first jobs after I got out of high school was working in Filenes Basement. The original one in Boston. Only die-hard bargain shoppers went into Filenes on a sale day.

It was where my mother taught me how to shop for a true bargain. It was her way to unwind after a hard day with the five of us “angels”. Yes that was a heavy note of sarcasm there.

However I think even she would have been taken aback by this.   Wal-Mart had their black Friday ad posted on-line already. I don’t think you can order anything listed there at their low price, not yet. However like, walking into a store in October and seeing Christmas decorations next to Jack O lanterns, it just hits a nerve.

I’m not being a grouch, far from it. my Christmas decorations  go up the day after  Thanksgiving and I don’t take them down until January, However no matter how I try the majority of my presents shopping isn’t done until after Thanksgiving.

Call me old-fashioned but I like it that way.

Wednesday Words-A day late

Sorry I’ve not posted any lately, have had problems with internet access. All fixed now.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.  ~Steve Jobs

Love this quote! Took me a long time to learn it though.  🙂 Once I did I was so much better.

Sandy sucks

Pure and simple.

I’ve been glued to the TV watching the horror and the devastation. Before moving to Arizona we lived in New Jersey for 12 years. Many of the places we knew are gone. There are friends I’ve not heard from yet. I am on facebook all day as people check in I breathe a little easier. They may not have power but they’ve managed to text someone or find somewhere with wifi so they can say, Hi, I’m alive, we’re ok.

The people of the tri state area will survive and come back, w\but they need help.  NBC is showing a concert tonight that is amazing. I’m sitting her watching Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Fallon and Steven Tyler on the same stage singing ‘Under the Boardwalk.”

If you can give anything please do so. Doesn’t matter if  it’s the Red Cross, or another charity such as Bon Jovi’s Soul Foundation, Catholic Charities, anything.  It’s the only thing to do.
